About Upplai

Upplai (pronounced “apply”) is on a mission to make job hunting less soul-crushing. We’re an AI-powered career platform that helps job seekers optimize their resumes and cover letters to get past ATS filters and impress recruiters—turning what used to take hours into minutes.

Founded by a Stanford alum who’s experienced the hiring process from both sides, we’ve built tools that address real pain points: the overwhelming volume of applications that bury great candidates, and the frustration of sending countless resumes into the void. Our platform includes an AI Resume Builder, Cover Letter Generator, Resume Scorer, and Job Application Tracker—all grounded in data-driven strategies from career experts and designed with complete transparency.

We serve individual job seekers, career services teams, and HR departments, helping people present their best professional selves and land more interviews. We’re bootstrapped, mission-driven, and focused on real impact. Because great candidates shouldn’t be filtered out by flawed systems.

What You’ll Own

You’ll be Upplai’s content engine—the person who translates our product mission into scroll-stopping, share-worthy content across every platform. This isn’t a “post what we tell you” role. You’ll have creative freedom to experiment, iterate, and build a content strategy that drives awareness, engagement, and trust.

Your weekly content output:

  • 1 blog post (SEO-optimized, thought leadership or how-to content)
  • 2-3 LinkedIn posts (professional, value-driven, conversation-starting)
  • 1-2 TikTok videos (quick tips, relatable job-search humor, product demos)
  • 3-4 Instagram posts (mix of carousel tips, reels, stories)
  • 3-4 X (Twitter) posts (snappy, topical, engaging)
  • 1 YouTube video every 2 weeks (tutorials, founder stories, user testimonials)

You’ll also support PR and media outreach—pitching stories, building journalist relationships, and landing features in career, tech, and startup publications.

What Makes You a Great Fit

Must-Haves:

  • Portfolio that pops: Show us your content chops through personal projects, freelance work, or past roles. We want to see text, images, videos, and multimedia work that reflects a strong aesthetic sense and storytelling ability.
  • AI-native creator: You’re fluent in using AI tools (ChatGPT, Gemini, Midjourney, Runway, Descript, etc.) for content ideation, generation, and editing. Bonus if you’ve automated workflows with tools like n8n, Make, or Zapier.
  • Social media savvy: You understand platform nuances—what works on LinkedIn doesn’t work on TikTok, and you know how to adapt tone, format, and pacing accordingly.
  • Excellent written communication: Your writing is clear, compelling, and error-free. You can shift from conversational to professional depending on the audience.
  • Design sensibility: Clean design is core to our brand. You have an eye for layout, typography, color, and visual hierarchy (Canva/Figma skills are a plus).
  • Self-starter mindset: You thrive with minimal supervision, take ownership of outcomes, and proactively solve problems. You don’t wait to be told what to do.
  • Curiosity and learning: You’re constantly exploring new tools, trends, and techniques. If there’s a new AI video tool or podcast platform, you’re already testing it.

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Experience with workflow automation tools (n8n, Make, Zapier) for content scraping and distribution
  • SEO knowledge (keyword research, on-page optimization, content strategy)
  • PR experience (media pitching, press release writing, journalist outreach)
  • SaaS or startup marketing experience

Experience Level

0–3 years in digital marketing, content creation, or related roles. Fresh grads are welcome if you can demonstrate your content creation abilities through personal projects, internships, or freelance work.

What Success Looks Like

We measure performance by ownership and outcomes, not hours logged or Zoom attendance. Here’s how we’ll track your impact:

  • Content quality and consistency: Are you hitting weekly targets with high-quality, on-brand content?
  • Engagement metrics: Are posts driving likes, shares, comments, and follows?
  • Traffic and SEO: Is blog content bringing organic traffic and improving search rankings?
  • PR wins: Are you landing media mentions and building relationships with journalists?
  • Platform growth: Are we gaining followers and building community across channels?
  • Creative experimentation: Are you testing new formats, trends, and ideas that resonate with our audience?

Why This Role is Awesome

Direct founder access: You’ll work closely with the CEO, learning how early-stage companies operate and contributing to strategic decisions.

Creative freedom: No bureaucracy, no approval chains. If you have an idea, test it.

Growth trajectory: Excel in this role, and you could grow into Head of Content Strategy or Digital Marketing as we scale.

Flexible, remote work: Work from anywhere, set your own hours (as long as there’s some overlap with SF time for syncs).

Build your portfolio: Create content for a real product with real users—great for your personal brand.

Mission-driven work: Help people land jobs and advance their careers. Actual impact, not vanity metrics.

Compensation

Competitive compensation based on experience and location. We’ll discuss this during the interview process to ensure it’s a fair fit for both sides.
